First Words Deluxe App Reviews

If using your IPod they might as well learn something, right?

Preschool app that teachs letters and spelling. Emphasizes each letter, the letters in combination and the whole word - followed by an animation. Voices are adults and not irritating. Appropriate for 2 year olds. No evidence yet that my son has actually learned any letters or spelling, but given the amount of time he spends playing this app I hope hes learning something!

Amazing Application

Our 4 year son that has Autism LOVES this application. He now can recognize and spell every word in this application and more. So glad we purchased this application. Highly recommend it!

its an ok app

Its an ok app but unfortunately letters can easily be swiped off the screen making it impossible to finish the word. This leads to extreme frustration for our children who have to leave the app and restart it. Hopefully this can be fixed in an update.

Disappointed

I bought the full version because the free one has a Spanish version but just a few words and I wanted my daughter to have more variety but I did not read that the full version is only in English!!! Well still a good app but not enough for what I need it. :-(

the best

my 15 month old daughter love it. amazing how this app helped her learn arranging letters at her age. bought her own itouch then put bunch of educational baby apps in it but this is her favorite one. definitely recomend it.thanks :)

Best Word App Ever!

My 6 month old is eating this up! This is our "go to" for extended car rides!

Ok

Good for learning letters, beginning spelling, but not really worth $5 when you consider the amount of content compared to other games similarly priced. Stick with the free one.

Toddler

My 2 year old LOVES this. He is learning all the words!

Disappointing

This version has awful (simple) graphics. Also, the bulk of the vocabulary is three-letter words, which are front-loaded at the beginning of the list. Further, you cannot randomize the word sequence, meaning you have to go through the three-letter words over and over again before you get to the longer-words. My little guy gets bored when he sees the same words over and over again.

Phonics issue makes it a ripoff

I love this app and use it with my autistic son. The fact that many words disappear when switching to phonics mode has been known to me for quite some time, and I hoped that this would eventually be fixed. It hasnt. In fact, this company has decided that theyve solved this problem in the newest update by "explaining" what happens to the words when changing to phonics mode, to "clear up any confusion." First off, they dont explain anything--there is no attempt at trying to inform consumers WHY they cant get the phonics option to work with all of the words, so in my opinion they havent cleared up any confusion or explained anything. This company has insulted their customers. Yes, this app is nice, but it still continues to be a rip off when 90% of the words disappear when you attempt to do something that is advertised as a selling point for the app. This has been a known issue for quite some time, and this is the first time this company has even mentioned it. And their attempt at addressing it is to say IN THE APP that most of the words disappear. Good Jon, guys! Dont actually fix the issue that most of your customers have been complaining about. No, dont do that. Nope, just redundantly tell us all about an issue that we already know exists and all feel ripped off for. This is the reason for my low rating. Of this company wants to insult their customers, treat them like crap, and not actually fix a well known issue, then they deserve the crappy rating. I, and many other customers have been patient, waiting for this to be fixed, and it hasnt. Dont buy this app until the phonics issue is fixed, or this bait and switch company gives a detailed explanation why they cant fix it, because you will being ripped off like most of the rest of us whove purchased this app.

Exceptional series of learning apps

I used this app when volunteering in my childs Kindergarten class and it was a big hit. It has a nice, simple interface and is very engaging. My child is reading well above grade level thanks to well-made apps like this ...

Great for my daughter

I bought this app after using a few of the other learning touch apps with my 3 year old daughter. She really enjoys them. The apps are easy for her to use and I love to hear her repeat letter sounds and words she hears in the app (which is something I cant always get her to do for me). I purchased this app to give her access to more words and there are lots of them included. I like that I can select letters or phonics sounds and also choose a category of words or all words. This app is a great way to encourage her to learn and say new words. It is also a nice way to introduce letters and phonics. Money well spent!

Approved for KinderTown

First Words: Deluxe brings together 5 sets of thematic words that support your beginning reader to build simple words, sound by sound. For children already blending sounds, First Words becomes an app for practicing spelling. Parents can set up the appropriate environment for their child by adjusting the variety of settings. Familiar, thematic words paired with colorful pictures for young children and options for parent customization is what make this app a success. We recommend this app, and the other learning touch: First Words apps, because they give kids an opportunity to play with building words. We are glad that they do not attempt to teach words with phonics sounds that do not follow the beginning phonics rules. This would be very confusing for young kids. The apps still give kids a chance to learn letter patterns while they are exposed to print in meaningful ways. It would be wonderful to have more word lists available, but for the price there is a lot of good content in this single app.

Solid app for early learning

I like that the app has a very clean and straightforward user interface. You could progress into the first words activity without confusing menu buttons. The Home button, options, and settings were all organized, and seemed to be differentiated in the right places for parents versus kids.

wonderful app :)

This app is fun, educational, and very easy to use. This app can grow with your child when options are used to adjust to your childs needs. My children find this app fun and enjoyable. As the parent I love that my children are learning not only vocabulary words but also beginning spelling.

Great app

All 3 of my boys use this app. My oldest could read before kindergarten from playing with is app and with others from the app store. My 2 year old picked it up and started using it on his own just two weeks ago. We all love this app. Im using it now with my middle boy. Hes begging to play as Im writing the review. Thanks developers for the time and hard work.

Great app to help kids learn their first word

I like this app and its really great for young kids in helping them practice and to learn their first word. Each of the word letter is sounded so they can really get familiar with the word via sight and hearing. There are lots of words in the app to keep the kids busy for a while.

Great App!

Very customizable app to teach children a great deal of vocabulary and learn to spell. There are so many options, each member of the family can have their own unique experience. You can even buy an add on of a different language. I highly recommend it.

Awesome app for all ages and abilities. Great for teaching new words, spelling as well as fine motor and control. Great starter app for those little fingers that are new to the iPad/iPhone. Love it!!!

Favorite kids app

We have had this app for a year and a half and use it so much that our friends and even pediatrician asked for the name of it! Great learning tool!!
